I bought this television (as a gift) after a bad experience with a Haier 7" LCD portable (very poor reception and then it died the day after I gave it to my mom). I ordered the Axion as a replacement and the reception is a LOT better than with the Haier. It picks up more channels and almost all the channels are crystal clear (with the Haier, only one channel was clear).
I think the key for these TVs is an external antenna. WIth the Haier, you have to purchase one. This TV came with a built-in antenna AND an external antenna, and perhaps that is the difference as far as reception. (As to why the Haier stopped working - no idea).
This TV is to be used as a replacement for an analog and the review is based on use with just the antenna provided, not hooked up to cable or any kind of converter box. On its own, with the antenna provided, the TV has so far been excellent. After the experience with the Haier model, I am thrilled with this one.
